Lauristina

George Wyndham and his sons made valuable contributions to the horse breeding industry. Starting with thoroughbreds believed to have come from his cousin's stud at Petworth, which had produced five Oaks and five Derby winners, a fine stud with over 300 brood mares was built-up at Dalwood and Bukkulla.

Two of the most notable horses bred at Dalwood were Lauristina and Lunelle.

Lunelle, after a winning career, produced Luna (by Lord of the Hills), who produced A.T. (by Tarragon) and won the Sydney Cup in 1876. Luna also produced Calamia (by Maribyrnong) who won the Melbourne Cup in 1878.

Lauristina as a four-year old won a match race for one thousand pounds at Homebush in 1859 against Veno over a three mile course. Previously Veno had been declared "Champion Racehorse of Australia" after an Inter-Colonial Match Race at Flemington in 1858.

The Wyndhams were also major breeders of Walers for the Indian Army.
